History
Ratu Boko is located about 3 km south of Prambanan Temple. Ratu Boko district which was located on a hill with an elevation of ± 195.97 m above sea level. Ratu Boko site is not a temple, but the ruins of an empire. Therefore, Ratu Boko Temple is often referred to as Kraton Ratu Boko. Called Kraton Boko, because according to legend it was the site of Ratu Boko Palace, the father of Lara Jonggrang. Ratu Boko site is estimated to be built in the 8th century by the Sailendra dynasty Of Buddhist religion, but later taken over by the Hindu Kings of Mataram. The ' owner ' defection led to the building of Kraton Boko was influenced by Hinduism and Buddhism.

Ratu Boko site is found in an inscription dated to the year 792 M called the inscription Abhayagiriwihara. The contents of the inscription that the alleged underlying Kraton Ratu Boko built by Rakai Panangkaran. Abhayagiriwihara inscriptions are written using huruh pranagari, which is one of the characteristics of the Buddhist inscription. In the inscription mentioned that King Tejapurnama Panangkarana, which estimated is Rakai Panangkaran, has ordered the construction of the Abhayagiriwihara. The same name is also mentioned in Kalasan Inscription (779 M), Prasati Mantyasih (907 M), and the inscription Wanua Tengah III (908 M). According to experts, said abhaya means without hagaya or peace, giri means Hill or mountain. Thus, Abhayagiriwihara means the monastery that was built on a hill. In the reign of Rakai Walaing Pu Kombayoni, i.e., 898-908 year, Abhayagiri Buddhist monastery was renamed the Palace Walaing.

Kraton Ratu Boko which occupies of land large enough for these consists of several groups of buildings. The majority are currently only rubble.

Awalnya, pantai ini dikenal dengan Pantai Indrayanti. Penyebutan nama Pantai Indrayanti sebelumnya menuai banyak kontraversi. Indrayanti bukanlah nama pantai, melainkan nama pemilik cafe dan restoran. Berhubung nama Indrayanti yang terpampang di papan nama cafe dan restoran pantai, akhirnya masyarakat menyebut pantai ini dengan nama Pantai Indrayanti. Sedangkan pemerintah menamai pantai ini dengan nama Pantai Pulang Syawal. Namun nama Indrayanti jauh lebih populer dan lebih sering disebut daripada Pulang Syawal. Keterlibatan pihak swasta dalam pengelolaan Pantai Indrayanti rupanya turut membawa dampak positif. Berbeda dengan pantai-pantai lain yang agak kotor, sepanjang garis pantai Indrayanti terlihat bersih dan bebas dari sampah. Hal ini dikarenakan pengelola tak segan-segan menjatuhkan denda sebesar Rp. 10.000 untuk tiap sampah yang dibuang oleh wisatawan secara sembarangan. Karena itu Indrayanti menjadi tempat yang nyaman untuk dikunjungi.
